Detailed design work progressing

We’re working with design specialists Wood on the detailed design of our low carbon hydrogen production, storage and refuelling facility.

The facility is trailblazing, being the largest of its kind in the UK, and Wood is helping us tackle the design challenges posed by converting the brownfield Birkshall Gas site.

The design includes:

• Full brownfield site design, including the production and dispensing facilities using 3D modelling and advanced visualisation techniques to ensure a robust, future proof design suitable for construction.
• Additional modelling to assess and reduce risk to the surrounding area, with safety at the heart of all considerations.
• Expert hydrogen specialist analysis to ensure the detailed design is low-risk and safe, including welding high pressure hydrogen pipelines.
• Ensuring operational readiness for the detailed design to ensure success in future project stages.

Wood’s team in Stockton, including specialist process and hydrogen experts, is working alongside the project team, with the BLCH Design Manager working from the Stockton office one day each week, maximising opportunities to collaborate.   This close working relationship has resulted in an effective and honest working relationship, with the team able to respond efficiently and quickly to any changes in the initial scope.
